I have previously written about the likely failure one experiences with typical brokers representing your products into the general market place. Now however I would like to report to you two types of brokers who typically do an excellent job, providing valuable services.
Public Adjusters, hired to assist you in making an insurance claim. This is typically an area of huge abuse as the insurance companies are committed to not paying, paying as little as possible, or at the very least delaying paying for as long as possible. This is a fact any business which experienced a casualty loss will understand and agree occurs.
When a loss occurs, and it takes many months to get far less then you believed you were insured for, you will agree with my premise. In fact I have had more then one client who was forced out of business because they either never got the insurance proceeds they expected or it took so long and was for so much less, they were forced out of business.
Yes you can always hire a lawyer to threaten or sue, but this is also expensive and actually plays into the insurance companies plan to delay, as now its a legal issue and you can expect additional delays to facilitate the lawyers requirements. Insurance companies have many lawyers on call, on their payroll thus it is not even an additional expense.
Alternatively, hire a public adjuster, he knows the rules, can understand the fine print, knows the tricks the insurance company uses, shortens the waiting time, gets paid when you get paid and gets far more then you will get thus his fee is self liquidated. I have seen it work and it works very well, faster, painless and far more money realized. Use them, it appears that the vast minority of claims filed are handled this way and it should be a majority. This is one broker who delivers value.
A second type of broker which I have had excellent results from are trucking and shipping brokers. They will get you exactly what your trucking and shipping requirements demand, at the cheapest price possible and the trucking companies pay them, its a free service that is excellent. I have used them with wonderful results.
Trucking and shipping brokers provide a little known but valuable service as it is not well publicized or marketed but be aware they exist and perform an excellent service, especially in solving difficult shipping issues such as less then full truck loads or refrigeration or reaching tricky locations. Of course they also work very well providing traditional shipping requirements. They provide a valuable service for the small business.
In addition they will help get you credit if you need assistance in this area.
Public Adjusters and trucking and shipping brokers, two resource that should be in your rolodex.

It really is a regional thing, you can google it, or check local yellow pages…under transportation brokers, shipping brokers, trucking brokers and call a few. Find a broker with whom you can communicate effectivelywith and who will come out to see you and create the relationship.
You should have llttle difficulty finding one who will work with you. Some will extend you credit on behalf of the trucking companies as well.
good luck, Don

Do you know of any databases that list various trucking brokers?
