This past election was all about change, as both candidates promised, and this was the keystone of both campaigns.

I have been saying this for years, successful business is all about change.  We all know the old saying, that if we do the same things we always do, we will get the same results…!  Yet we do the same things over and over despite them not always working very well, hoping for different results.

This issue is directly applicable to small business development.  Our mistakes are predictable and identifiable.  Many of us are not reaching our fullest potential, not achieving the result we want and expect, our businesses are not as profitable and not as successful as we desire.

The changes required to establish more profitable businesses and to resolve difficult business problems are well known and I spend a lot of time pointing this out to various business owners…yet, the business owners remain committed to the ‘old way’, usually the wrong way, the less profitable way, but their way, whatever it may be.

So here is the deal, if one truly wants a new deal, changes, a better path, better results, we need to change, at the top and deeply within as implementing change is less about the technical requirements and more about the ego and personal control issues.

Emotional stability, that’s the goal, not being controlled by what others think, but doing what is the right thing to do; our not being controlled by our imperfect desire for control, recognition, acknowledgment, and agreement.

If you are having trouble identifying the right path, there are many who can help; however, don’t waste your time or money if you are determined to remain as is -not willing to change within- and therefore continuing along the wrong path.

The business owner must change his views -his style- his way may not be the best way and the sooner he recognizes this the better; and the faster the company can make the changes needed to turn the corner to better days, more profitable, more stable… more successful.

Change deeply within…then change your environment around you…in that order, in that way.
